We took a day trip to Byron Bay a few Saturdays ago. Some friends are especially keen on the spot and they do the trip in a day on a regular basis. What I hadn't realized before we went was that they had always driven down at nap time then returned at bed time. As it turned out, although we were exhausted by the time we reached home, a day trip to this beautiful spot is utterly doable and a great way to spend a summer Saturday.
We arrived at Byron a little after 9am and started our day with a play on the beach. Just before 11am we met up with our friends (Stefan, Catherine, and Max) at the playground by the beach. We took a beautiful hike to the lighthouse then returned to the beach for more fun in the sand and waves. At the end of the day, just after sunset, we ate takeaway on a grassy area near the beach. Just before we left, Tim, Maxwell and I watched an outdoor slideshow of an "earthy" nature. It was Maxwell's idea.

What a great day! You guys look great. I was in Byron Bay once in my youth, and burnt my fair skinned back to a crisp. I couldn't lay down on my back for a week. I see Max has a much wiser approach to skin protection.
Great to read up a bit on your activities.
